Cars (Part 1)

There are those days when NOTHING works.  Then again, there are other days when things fall together unexpectedly.  You don't plan for success.  You have no realistic expectation that something wonderful is going to happen, and then...

It happens.

I spent more than an hour last night looking for something to post about while my son was at Band Practice.  I found things that other folks had posted about already, stuff that was 'weird', but not weird enough to be 'funny', and then I came across a myriad of stories about the Weasel Rat Boy's Administration which only served to make me sad.  Nope, no hope at all for me last night.  I was more than a few fries short of my literary "Happy Meal" as I lay my head upon my pillow last evening.

Then, this morning, something wonderful happened - I found one thing to write about, then a second, and then a final third topic worthy of consideration for me (and ultimately 'you' - I hope).  A veritable Trifecta of topics to discuss, and, BONUS!, they were all related via a single four-letter word... 'AUTO'.  Or, to be more consistent with the title of this post, they all have something to do with 'CARS'.

As I'm already into the latter hours of Tuesday evening, I'm going to break the posts into three different parts.  Each one will be a stand-alone entry as each of the topics is unique to itself.

Without further 'idling' at the keyboard, I am pleased to present:

"CARS (Part 1)"

Having a bad day?
Looking to get away from it all - even for a little while?
Ever wonder where how far south this road goes?
Did you ever just want to DRIVE and dare your troubles to follow you?

Yes, generations of Americans have had a long-term love (and, I must admit a sometimes 'hate') relationship with the automobile.  The 'car' is a symbol of freedom to both young and old - an outward expression of our personality and the thing we all 'wanted most' growing up in a suburban area of the US.

While some view their vehicle a status symbol, others, like myself, look at it as a tool.  Plainly stated, I drive my car for work.  I am in sales and 'in sales if I do not 'sell' stuff - I do not get paid.  Working in Central New York I have a responsibility to my employer to support a geographic area which is approximately 130 miles wide by 80 miles deep.  Stated Mathematically, we can visualize my employment equation as follows:

Car + Gas + Maintenance/Insurance Expenses = Employment

Everybody got this so far?  Great!  (I always get nervous when I start doing 'Math')

This morning I had one of those blinding flashes of Déjà vu.  I came across an article which I remembered writing about a while back.  It wasn't until I read through the entire article that I discovered the main difference between my post of March, 2011, and this one from January 2013.

That difference?  The post from 2011 focused on the Federal Government implementing a 'VMT', or 'Vehicle Mileage Tax' - today's post included plans to do the same...  At the State level.  And the Tax is no longer theoretical, aspects of it are already being implemented.

From yesterday's article, found on CNBC.com:

"The VMT is likely the way states will raise money in the future for their roads and infrastructure," said Joshua Schank, president and CEO of the ENO Center for Transportation in Washington, D.C. "The states aren't yet to the point where they've figured out exactly how to implement the VMT, but they'll get there."

...

Why? Blame it on the double whammy of a recession prompting people to drive less, which means they are filling up less often. On top of that, Americans are increasingly driving more fuel efficient vehicles, including hybrids, which means people make fewer trips to the gas station. According to the University of Michigan, the average fuel economy for a new vehicle sold in 2012 was 23.8 MPG, an all-time high.

...

Meanwhile, lawmakers in Oregon are kicking around the idea of taxing high mileage vehicles starting in 2015. The Oregon tax could be a flat annual fee and/or a tax per mile driven.

Either way, what's happening in the Pacific Northwest is raising a number of questions. The primary one being: Is it only a matter of time until anybody owning a car or truck is paying a special tax based on how much they drive their car?

...

As more states look to VMT or per-mile driven taxes, they will wrestle with the tricky issue of calculating how many miles people drive. They could avoid the problem by imposing a flat annual tax on all vehicles when they are registered each year. Critics say that would be unfair to those who drive only 5,000 or 8,000 miles a year while others who are racking up 15,000 or 17,000 miles are paying the same tax.

This last paragraph is interesting because it focuses on the issue that came to light in my post from 2011 - namely that YOUR government (State or Federal feel free to interchange terms at this point) needs a means to track your vehicle.  Suggestions have ranged from a GPS-like device in your car to a manufacturer added 'Black Box' that you'll not be able to 'mess with'.  Yes, just to be 'Fair', the government will necessarily need to track your vehicle, presumably with YOU in it.

Okay, everyone got THAT?  You'll feeling warm and fuzzy like me?  Okie dokie, so not only will you have to contend with yet another tax (because EV's and Hybrid vehicles are a 'Fiscally Bad Idea' for the Highways) but you'll also have to give up the teensiest, tiniest piece of yet another protections under the U.S. Constitution and allow your movements to be tracked by satellites circling the Earth.  But hey, what's a little Freedom opposed to the Common Good?  Right?  Nothing BAD could happen there, right?

And hey, not that I'm cheap or anything, but I'll also need to amend my Mathematical equation above to account for the additional expense of the VMT and the loss of yet another Freedom:

Car + Gas + Maintenance/Insurance Expenses + VMT  = Employment - Freedom

Yup, there are some days when a post pretty much writes itself.  This would be one of those...

Sorry.

2012, The Year In Review (Re-Moo 2)

After much consternation, delay, setback, and varied frustrations associated with saying goodbye to last year I am pleased to finally conclude the final installment of the "2012 Year in Review".  Since the first section was published last week, I received several e-mails asking, "Hey Moos, are you okay?", "Did the aliens (space aliens) finally 'get' you?", and my personal favorite, "Do you have the $20 you owe me?"  Coincidentally, I also received several from an attorney in Nigeria who tells me that HE owes me LOTS of money.

I only responded to this second group of 'latter' messages and I'm really hoping that it works out as I could use lots of money.  As it turns out, regardless of how much I have, there are always people looking for more of it...

From me.

Oh, yes and I'm fine.  Thanks for asking!  I took a bit of an hiatus to enjoy the holidays and to spend time with family.  After doing so, I determined that I do like them quite a bit.  This is not particularly a surprise as I've known THEM for years.

What is surprising is that after knowing ME for years, and yes, they still put up with...  Me.

CHECKLIST FOR TODAY'S POST:

  1. Explain why I haven't been around...  CHECK
  2. Make obligatory joke about Nigerian Attorney's letter...  CHECK
  3. Self-deprecating humor...  CHECK
  4. Angle glasses so that I can more effectively see monitor...  CHECK
Checklist complete, let's begin today's journey into the ancient past, the dark and scary place I like to call...

"The Second Half of 2012"  Wooooooooo Woooooooo...

Scared yet?  You should be.  Come on, hold my hand, we're going back in time...

JULY 2012:  Ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, bum, bum, bum, bum, te, dum, da, da, da, de, bum!  As you probably already figured out, this opening salvo of joyous sound heralds in the 2012 Summer Olympics!!!  (Go ahead and re-read the preceding with the sound of the blaring horns of the intro music for the Olympics playing loudly in your mind.  I think that I got it right, although I may have missed a 'bum' or two in my translation.  Ah, but don't worry, plenty of 'bums' at the 2012 Summer Olympics and we'll get to them - soon enough...)

The 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England were AWESOME!  Sure, the US won a bunch of medals, but who cares about that?  I'm talking about the OTHER awesome stuff going on behind the scenes of the Olympics:  LOTS of Olympic condoms, naked women volleyball players (with photo!), tough-semi-naked boxers (female, of course), and 'Thurston and Lovey' Howells as far as the eye can see!

Yes, it's all here in my favorite post from the month of July...  "THE THRILL OF VICTORY, THE AGONY OF DEFLATE"

And, if I do say so myself, this post is chock full of smut, filth, and yes, towards the end, fashion tips (all of Olympic proportion).

I'm not sure if Durex will be the official sponsors of the 2016 Summer Olympics, but if they pass, I'm sure the folks at Planned Parenthood could pick up the slack for them...

Hey, speaking of 'Slackers'?!?!

AUGUST 2012:  Ah, yes, here they are now.  The walking, talking, crying, shouting, and otherwise 'Untouchable-Whining-Vaginas-of-August'.

If you were to hold a serious national conversation about an issue near and dear to your, um, heart, would YOU do it dressed as a body part?  No, probably not, but that's exactly what these folks did.  Why?  Because evil Republicans want women to have children (ALL THE TIME UNTIL THEY'RE 92 YEARS OLD!) a group of brave (and amazingly misguided women (and men)) braved the dog days of August dressed as giant walking labias to make their point.  Um, whatever THAT was.  Rather than re-invent the wheel coming up with new text regarding this post, I'll excerpt what I wrote back in August here - I really can't think of anything better to write about these 'Southern' Extremists for FREE Stuff from the Government...

Here's the thing, if you had a shred of self-respect, would you don a bright pink (or fabulous Earthen-tone) Vagina and show up in public to get Media coverage for a DCCC inspired make-believe war on women?

No, I'm thinking you probably wouldn't.

But then again, I'm thinking that MOST people wouldn't, you know, mostly because:

a.  it's 'icky',

b.  a Vagina costume HAS to be hot, (in SOOOOO many ways)

c.  and family members may find this video in the future and ask, "Um, Marge, I thought you gave up drugs in the 70's - didn't you?"

My favorite quote from the embedded video clip?   "My Mother always told me to really appreciate women and to appreciate the vagina, because that's where I come from..."

Yeah, me too...

You can relive the magic of August, 2012 by reading all of  THE VAGINA IDEALOGUES.

SEPTEMBER 2012:   Many people continue to be confused as to HOW more people filing unemployment claims equals a national unemployment rate which goes DOWN...  I too, once scratched my head over this unseemly mathematical conundrum - it was then that I decided to look into the logic behind this situation.

I wrote the post originally in February of 2010 and updated it again for the September (pre-election) SURPRISE DROP in the national Unemployment Rate!  The unemployment rate has changed since September of 2012 of course, but in Washington, DC the LOGIC never does.  If you'd like to find out how we got to the current 7.8% unemployment rate, don't even try. No one cares, the numbers are bogus, AND you'd be wasting your time expending your mental horsepower trying to get to the same number as published by the BLS.  Contrary to popular belief, the Unemployment Algorithm has NOTHING to do with a the use of a "Magic Feather".  I am not, however, ruling out the possibility that Never Land is somehow involved in the BLS mystical formulation of Unemployment Percentages.

For more on how Unemployment is calculated, please follow this link:  "HOW TO CALCULATE UNEMPLOYMENT"

OCTOBER 2012:  I take no joy in telling you that more than four months after the attack on the US Embassy in Benghazi - nothing has changed.  Well, this discounts the fact that Secretary of State Clinton has, since being asked to testify on December 20th, 2012 she has:

  • Had a bad case of the Benghazi flu
  • Had a concussion
  • Had a blood clot
  • Had no time to explain what happened to our embassies and why we did nothing to stop our citizens from being tortured and killed

The parents and families of those who died still have no answers as to why they needed to pay the 'ultimate price' in service to our Nation.  But, in the scheme of things, our Nation does not appear to care, as evidenced by the lack of follow-through on this topic, its absence from reporting in the Media, the results of the November elections, and an ongoing fascination with its planned dis assemblage of the 2nd Amendment by the Obama Administration.

Perhaps if the Obama Administration had mandated the removal of guns, RPGs and grenades in Libya, our representatives would still be alive today?  Oh, that's right, 'bad guys' aren't subject to the law, only law-abiding citizens are...

For a timeline of events of the September 11th, 2012 'spontaneous-anti-Muslim-video-caused-attacks' on our embassies, you can check out:  "THE BENGHAZI SHUFFLE"

NOVEMBER 2012:  I guess I could have picked any of the other posts from November, 2012 to place here, but I chose this one for a very specific reason...  It has nothing to do with the November election.  Yeah, that wound is still a bit open, and sore as I type this on January 7th, 2013.

Okay, it's time for YOU to be President (for approximately 32 seconds)!  Faced with reducing US spending, do you:

a.  Reduce 'wasteful' spending,
b.  Send pink slips to men and women committed to serving our country,
c.  Double-down on the 'failed green policies of the past',
d.  Guarantee loans for third-world Muslim countries to produce 'Green Energy' there,
e.  All answers except 'a' above.

If YOU answered 'a.' you would be...

INCORRECT!!!

If you answered either:  b., c., d., or e.  You COULD BE President of the United States for the next 32 seconds!  (So sorry, but your time is now up!!!  We hope you liked Hawaii and AirForce One.)

Yes, while the US Economy runs into the Recession Ice Cream Parlor and screams, "Better Make it a Double!!!", your Commander in Chief decides to lay off a bunch of Marines while investing in Green Energy here, and in places inhabited by people who 'kind of, sort of' HATE us.

You see, in actuality, you would NOT be a good replacement for President Obama as only he could have come up with this delightfully, deceptively, and disgusting original plan for the continued dismantling of America.  And I respectfully give him a 'D' for his performance, which as we all knows stands for 'Drive' which also stands for 'Democrat' going over the cliff in a bus on which we all have reserved seating.

Read, if you must, "Guns vs. Butter 2012"

DECEMBER 2012:   As we closed out 2012 I once again posted My Christmas Story for the Fifth Year in a row.  Why?  Because I like it.  What don't I like?  Well, how about the fact that after 50+ years of social engineering by the Federal and State Government, 'Fathers' turn out to be on the endangered species list, right along with my little friend shown above, the Chittenango Ovate Amber Snail.

Yes, while everyone was putting up their trees, wrapping gifts, and otherwise being all 'Festive', I found out from an article online, dated December 25th, from the Washington Times online that 'Fathers' are in woefully short supply in 2012 America.  Not that there 'aren't' Fathers, but rather, there are a lot of men who 'do the deed' and then, simply, move on to leave the raising of the child to the Mother, and the Step-Father, "Uncle Sam".  This didn't surprise me, but I really didn't need to read about it on Christmas Day.  But hey, that's just me.

If you'd like to read about it today (to really mess up your 2013!), you can click to visit the post in full here at:  MOVE OVER CHITTENANGO OVATE AMBER SNAIL, YOU'VE GOT COMPETITION

I leave you now with Best Wishes for the New Year, the Hope (that things don't get weirder), and sincere thanks to all of you who have read, visited, and commented throughout the year.

Be nice to each other, for we are all we have.  And for this, I am extremely grateful.

Your friend,

Mike (a.k.a.  "Moos")

p.s.:  In case you're wondering, "Where do we go from here?"  I offer the following graphic, and my condolences...

2012, The Year In Review (Re-Moo?) First Six Months

2012 - Ah, yes, this most EXCELLENT year is coming to and end with an even MORE excellent year is queuing up at midnight tonight...

Yes, I KNOW - it should have been the final year for the Obama Presidency.  Yet, at the direction of the People (apparently, most of whom should not be allowed to drive a motorized vehicle, yet alone 'vote') President Barack Obama has an additional four years to do, um, whatever it is, he plans to do.  (But don't worry, you'll find out soon enough.  Oh, and if you were planning on purchasing a weapon for personal, or home defense, NOW would be a good time to do that...  We did.)

Prepare to embrace another four years of the Fundamental Transformation of the United States of America!

[SIGH]

But hey, enough of my well-founded and well-documented healthy distrust of President Obama's vision of America.  It's time to get back to the topic at hand - this year's edition of 2012 The Year in Review!!!  (In two installments - as I'd like to enjoy New Years' too...)

It's time spend a few minutes looking back at the Posts (Ghosts?) of 2012 and speculate as to what NEXT year holds for all of US.

January - Did you ever wonder what inspired Margaret Sanger to create that 'warm and fuzzy' organization known as "Planned Parenthood"?

Well I did, and with more than 11 months of showers behind me, I still feel soiled (a.k.a.: 'oogey') about what I found in her writings.  A word of caution here, you may want to go out and buy your soap (a lot of it) in advance of reading the following post at the link below.

You can read all about:

  • Why the 'Great War' was a GOOD thing!
  • Why the Poor should not be allowed to procreate!
  • Why Margaret Sanger and Adolf Hitler are currently sharing a cafe table in Hell...  Together!!!

All these answers (and more) can be found in "Meet Maggie!"

February - Remember how someone in the White House decided that American Kids should be eating healthier?  Remember how kids in school districts across the country began selling 'Contraband' food to their classmates at lunch time so that they wouldn't have to eat the Healthier Lunch Program items?  Yeah, me too.

However, the story that didn't receive quite so much coverage was of a child whose Mother packed her lunch only to be told by school Cafeteria Workers that the lunch was not 'adequate' for the child and that she HAD to purchase a school lunch...  Which included Chicken McNugget 'knock-offs'.

Only problem is, she didn't WANT them.

When I first looked into this story, I was surprised that Lunch Nazis had the ability to determine what your kids eat under Department of Health and Human Services guidelines - what surprised me even more was the other things I found when I went looking for 'school lunch stories' online.  It was at this point that I found out WHAT your kids are being fed under the watchful eye of clipboard-carrying Federal Inspectors of the USDA.

You can read it in its entirety by clicking here:  "Eat Me"

March - Before we knew Sandra Fluke was going to be one of the folks in consideration for TIME Magazine's 'Person of the Year'.  I had a bit of fun at her expense, mostly because she made the case for the Obama Administration for putting the cost of birth control at MY (and your) 'expense' via ObamaCare legislation (effectively neutering the right of religious organizations to 'Just say NO' to paying for birth control).

This, of course, was LONG before I learned that 'Fluke' is pronounced, 'Fluck', so as not to be confused with a bottom-dwelling, worm-eating fish.

No, that's not HER at all...

You can read the rest of the post by clicking here:  "Sandra Fluke Opens Up"

April - President Obama seems to have issues when it comes to the United States having three 'co-equal' branches of government.  I continue to find this 'odd' as I heard he taught law and was a Constitutional 'scholar' prior to becoming the junior Senator from Illinois.

With a bit of digging, it didn't take long before I found another President operating under a similar premise as our current POTUS (thinking that the three branches of government are merely a singular 'trunk' operating at his sole discretion).

The difference between this President and the former discussed in the post is that there were Americans who stood up and demanded that the President obey the base tenets of the Constitution back then.  Today, the Courts and Congress pretty much sit back and watch as their powers are usurped.  Not too clever for organizations made up of the 'Smartest Legal Guys / Gals' in the room...

You can read the post at:  The FDR 'Channel'

May -   EV's are HOT!!!  To the acronym-challenged (I fall into this category) the 'EV' stands for 'Electric Vehicle' category of automobiles.  Yes, we've long heard the virtues of electric vehicles, 'going green', saving the Planet, saving the Baby Whales, saving the Harp Seals, saving our entire ecosystem via the use of low-emissions, carbon-friendly electric cars and now, the promise of BIG THINGS from EV's have come to pass!

Yes, your Federal Tax Dollars have been used to place big bets on US-based businesses in Detroit (and Finland - one of the 57 states that Candidate Obama visited) to bring you the absolute BEST in electric transportation for the future!!!

Only one teensy-wheensy-teenie-tiny problem...

EV's are so hot, they're burning their owner's homes down.  I wrote the following post back in May, prior to SuperStorm Sandy.  All things being equal, I should have waited to write the post - you see, when you 'flood' Karma Fiskers they don't burst into flames...  They explode dramatically!!!

You'll find the post here:  "More Bad Karma"

June - This final installment for the first half of 2012 is one of my favorite posts.  Not because it's particularly insightful but rather, just because it's so darn 'down homey' and such.

Yes, back in June of 2012, if you contributed to the Obama re-election campaign, you could register to win a 'Date Night' with President and Mrs. Obama!!!

Gee, doesn't THAT sound swell?!?!

No, I didn't win, but some lucky stiff must have had a grand old time dining with the Obama's!  Only problem is, I guess, is that since President Obama took office - your personal slice of the 'Debt Pie' has increased by about $30,000 per household (last June's numbers - six months later we're in the $42k per household range.)

The post, in its entirety, can be found here:  "Swallow Hard"

Well, that's it for me today - I've got to do 'stuff' to prepare for this New Year's Eve extravaganza!  (a.k.a.:  De-icing the driveway (for the third time in two days) and figuring out what to cook for dinner)

I wish all of you a Happy New Year as we close out 2012.

Good riddance.

Next year will be a LOT better...

How do I know?

If you've survived the past four, the next four will be 'very similar'.  You're still kicking, right?  Come on, they say that the best revenge is 'Living well'.

So, start 'Living'!!!  Best wishes to you and yours for the New Year - have fun (it ticks 'them' off)!

Mike

Move Over Chittenango Ovate Amber Snail, You've Got Competition

Chittenango Ovate Amber Snail - 'Threatened' in NY State

Behold the 'Threatened' Chittenango Ovate Amber Snail!  While you can, any way...

This cuddly little slime dragger is on the New York State endangered species list.  My only hope is that someday soon its name be replaced by the Emerald Ash Borer Beetle.

Bye, bye Emerald Ash Beetle, you miserable little insect...  Long life to you, Chittenango Ovate Amber Snail!!!

December 27, 2012:  I woke this morning to find that 'Euclid' has pretty much blown itself out during the night as I slept.  The sound of rain and wind that lulled me to sleep on Wednesday evening has moved on.  While my Mom, Dad, Wife, and two-thirds of my Kids continue to sleep on this overcast Thursday Morning I find myself once again at the keyboard of my trusty Gateway laptop - just in time to read of another storm.

This is a storm from which none of us will escape in our lifetimes.  A storm of our own making; a tempest of our own design.  One which we have earned after fifty years of continual effort.  As I turn my head away from the whine of the fan in the old PC I can hear the thrum of the not-to-distant storm approaching from all sides.

I'm not talking about the Fiscal Cliff (and let me be the first to say, "Enjoy the ride!" as we all go down together) but rather another man-made unnatural disaster:
.
The disappearance of Fathers throughout the Nation

The threatened "Americanus Dadus" and "Cuteous Daughterous Maximus"

Once believed to be a renewable natural resource, 'Fathers' are disappearing at an alarming rate from the American Family landscape.  I wrote about this originally back in mid-2011 in a post entitled, "The Late, Great Society" .  I sourced some charts from the folks at Heritage.org, added a bit of commentary, inserted a photo of a cute little girl getting ready to serve up a 'Poop Sandwich' and viola -- a post was born!

(Moos Note:  Okay, admittedly the 'Poop Sandwich' was NOT entirely necessary, however it was extremely appropriate to the post as the government's been cooking them up for you 24x7 for almost Five decades!  Yumm-O!)

I take no comfort knowing that almost two years later...  Nothing has gotten better.  In fact, according to the article I read this morning on the WashingtonTimes.com site, my original post was chocked full of "Sunshine and Butterflies" compared to the actual state of 'Dadhood' today...

From the Washington Times online, December 25, 2012, by Luke Rosiak:

Nicole Hawkins‘ three daughters have matching glittery boots, but none has the same father. Each has uniquely colored ties in her hair, but none has a dad present in her life.

As another single mother on Sumner Road decked her row-house stoop with Christmas lights and a plastic Santa, Ms. Hawkins recalled that her middle child’s father has never spent a holiday or birthday with her. In her neighborhood in Southeast Washington, 1 in 10 children live with both parents, and 84 percent live with only their mother.

In every state, the portion of families where children have two parents, rather than one, has dropped significantly over the past decade. Even as the country added 160,000 families with children, the number of two-parent households decreased by 1.2 million. Fifteen million U.S. children, or 1 in 3, live without a father, and nearly 5 million live without a mother. In 1960, just 11 percent of American children lived in homes without fathers.

America is awash in poverty, crime, drugs and other problems, but more than perhaps anything else, it all comes down to this, said Vincent DiCaro, vice president of the National Fatherhood Initiative: Deal with absent fathers, and the rest follows.

Dangerous spiral

The spiral continues each year. Married couples with children have an average income of $80,000, compared with $24,000 for single mothers.

“We have one class that thinks marriage and fatherhood is important, and another which doesn’t, and it’s causing that gap, income inequality, to get wider,” Mr. DiCaro said.

The predilection among men to walk away from their babies is concentrated in the inner cities. In Baltimore, 38 percent of families have two parents, and in St. Louis the portion is 40 percent.

The near-total absence of male role models has ripped a hole the size of half the population in urban areas.

Among blacks, nearly 5 million children, or 54 percent, live with only their mother. Twelve percent of black families below the poverty line have two parents present, compared with 41 percent of impoverished Hispanic families and 32 percent of poor white families.

The schism is most apparent in the District, which has a higher portion of two-parent families among whites, at 85 percent, and a lower share among blacks, at 25 percent, than any state.

In all but 11 states, most black children do not live with both parents. In every state, 7 in 10 white children do. In all states but Rhode Island and Massachusetts, most Hispanic children do. In Wisconsin, 77 percent of white children and 61 percent of Hispanics live with both parents, compared with more than 25 percent of black children...

The bottom line is, of course, that after almost 50 years of well-meaning politicians and caring DC-based Folks spending BILLIONS to 'solve the poverty problem' in America...

We (or more specifically, 'they') have simply made matters worse by allowing the 'Government' to take the place of the 'Man' in the historical family relationship.  Fatherhood is no longer the cultural 'norm' in vast sections of America.  In fact, the 'Father' may soon appear right up there next to the Chittenango Ovate Amber Snail with his status listed as, 'Threatened', on the Nation's endangered species list.

The question I have is this:  Are the 'Old Rich White guys' of 1776 still considered America's Founding Fathers in 2012?

Or, will they simply be referred to in future history books as "The Nation's Baby Daddies"?

I honestly don't know.

The only thing that I do know is that when I began posting this I was sitting at the kitchen table by myself with all the lights off as my family slept.  A couple of hours, one shower, and one big hunk of German Apple Ring (the powdered sugar looks good on my sweatshirt) later I'm sitting at the same oval table with my parents, my wife, two of my kids and the two dogs circling the table waiting for SOMETHING to drop to the floor (preferably a hunk of my German Apple Ring).  Better luck next time Fuzzies...

Two days past Christmas and I am once again reminded of how lucky I am.

I only wish that our Nation might have some similar 'good luck' for a change.  This WOULD be change I could believe in.  I'm not sure that this year's 'FORWARD!' is our best theme for the New Year as it portends continual progression along the current path we find ourselves on.

Given that I am viewed by many others as an old, White guy (sorry, NOT rich - and less so in 2013), would it be wrong for me to nominate the word, 'Backward' as the theme for 2013?

You know, back to a time when men (and women) lived up to their responsibilities as parents to raise their kids together?  Back to the days when you had to PAY for your contraception 'gear' when you KNEW you were ready to run the 'risk' of being a parent?  You know, back before it was 'all good' to sow your seed willy nilly with whomever you could 'hook up with'?

Sorry to offend anyone (ah, not really), but like I said, I'm an old White Guy (and an actual Father to our three sons).  Sometimes I do find myself yearning for the past as I stare wide-eyed into the gaping maw of our anticipated future.

But hey, that's just me.

Happy New Years folks, and best wishes for 2013!

See ya on the other side of the cliff...
