Just Keep Swimming...

Associated Press, August 24, 2012:  WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrats want to cause a stir — or at least stay in the conversation — while the spotlight is on Republicans next week at the GOP convention in Tampa.

President Barack Obama and his campaign are seeking to counter Mitt Romney's message and try head off any dramatic climb for the Republican challenger in post-convention polls, staging events around the nation next week.

Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will campaign in four battleground states and Obama's campaign will hold events around the country aimed at attracting women voters. The "Romney-Ryan: Wrong for Women" events will start with the Women Vote 2012 Summit in Las Vegas on Saturday with appearances by White House advisers Valerie Jarrett and Cecilia Munoz and actress Natalie Portman and include similar gatherings aimed at women voters in seven cities next week.

Phil Singer, who helped coordinate Democrats' message during the 2004 Republican convention, said it's always difficult to "crash the other side's party" because the convention carries with it a captive media audience, primetime programming and tens of millions of dollars behind the high-profile speeches.

But Singer said "in a media environment that's on steroids as this one is, any time you're not feeding the shark, the shark is feeding on you."

Wow.

Interesting use of the metaphor, Mr. Singer.  

I pulled the above quotes from an article I found on Yahoo.com this morning.  There's more, of course, but as I'm moving my son back to college this morning, I won't be able to discuss it here.  That's one of the advantages to not being able to sleep past 5:30am, you can do 'stuff' while everyone in the house above you is doing nothing... 

But here's the thing:  I found some 'other stuff' online this morning that appears to be oddly consistent with the message conveyed above.  I found it in an interesting place, my favorite site, the Occupy Wall Street Home Page.

The Republican National Convention is taking place in Tampa starting August 27th. The Coalition to March on the RNC encourages you to join us and stand in solidarity as we march at the RNC to fight back against the political elite and the 1% agenda.
 
As of now, we are a Coalition uniting groups from around the country to say NO to this political system that only works for the 1% and therefore are marching at the Republican National Convention to let our voices be heard.

Together we stand to march for good jobs, healthcare, affordable education, equality and peace.

For too long people have suffered while the rich got richer. We say money for human needs, not on wars overseas and corporate greed. Together, we are planning a 5000 strong march at the first day of the convention on Aug 27th. It was great - Christmas 2012, spent with family, away from work, and away from the regular tedium of 'normal' daily life.  Yes, it was pretty much 'all' good. 

It was the best "To Mike / From Santa" gift I've given myself in years.  A free pass to stay offline for almost six whole days!

I don't know about you, but I didn't turn on a computer for the past six days.  Yes, I've missed the company of the laptop LCD's electric glow, but sometimes you've got to cut the cord (albeit it wireless) and rediscover the things which are lasting. 

• Family,
• Friends,
• Taking dogs for walks,
• Remembering the person you were, and 
• Revisiting the place(s) and people who made you who you are 

I could go on, but you know what I'm saying, right?  Yes, I suppose you do.

Today's post, however, is not about Christmas, not about family, and not about whether we are a 'Christian Nation' or not. 

It's about Nancy Pelosi hijacking Charles Dickens' quote attributed to Tiny Tim:

From the Associated Press Online:    DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Already they have interrupted Michele Bachmann and drawn a withering putdown from Newt Gingrich as "all noise, no thought."

Now, to the dismay of Iowa Republicans, Occupy activists in Des Moines are vowing to expand their protests as GOP presidential hopefuls converge on the state that speaks first in the race for the party's presidential nomination.

"The 99 percent have woken up and we're not going to take it anymore," Occupy activist Stephen Toothman, of Des Moines, said as an advance guard met Tuesday to decide which candidates to target in the coming week.

Hundreds of Occupy activists from at least 10 states were expected to participate in a "People's Caucus" near the Capitol to plot activities between now and the Jan. 3 caucuses. The activists are promising to interrupt candidates at events and camp out at their Iowa campaign offices. They say they want to change the political dialogue, but critics fear their tactics could tarnish Iowa's reputation for civil political discourse ahead of the contest. Activists say mass arrests are possible.

Occupy activists, who came from as far away as New York and Seattle, said the caucuses were largely meaningless because the parties and candidates were overly influenced by wealthy, special interests that led them to ignore key issues.

"The caucuses are really a statement as to where the nation is as a whole. I think this occupation is really a statement that they are dissatisfied with all the choices that we've been given," said Ivan Burghart, an activist from St. Louis who mingled with others at the group's Des Moines headquarters.

Occupy Des Moines organizer Jess Mazour, 24, said protesters wanted candidates to address issues ranging from campaign finance reform to college debt to the home foreclosure crisis. She said the weeklong set of actions marked a new phase for the nationwide Occupy movement, and would be a test of whether activists could flex political muscle as one group.

Stephany Hoffelt, a member of Occupy Iowa City, said protesters believed the in-your-face tactics were justified because their message hasn't gotten through in the past.

"It's perfectly appropriate if you were listening to what we were saying," Hoffelt said of the group's chant blasting Bachmann's positions on health care and taxes. "She is part of the 1 percent."

Ah, where to begin? 

• The 'Occupy Wherever' group appears to be well-funded (for a bunch of poor folks).  Shoot, I can't afford to take time off from work to visit the Great State of Iowa and stay in hotels for a week (or more?).  Maybe THESE guys are the 1% they keep yakking about?  Perhaps they HATE themselves?  I don't hate anyone, but honestly, I'm getting tired of them myself...
• The OWS folks are upset because they don't believe anyone is listening to their message (whatever IT happens to be 'at the moment' as they're repeat each other as if trapped in some Gregorian Chant nightmare).  The lack of exposure, unfortunately, is NOT their problem.  Their problem is that we HAVE heard them.  And after listening, we stopped listening to them.
• The objective, according to Ms. Hoffelt, is to disrupt the free speech of Republican Presidential Candidates in Iowa.  This, of course, is coming from the OWS group, which again, is upset that no one is a.)  Letting THEM speak, or b.) Listening to THEM
• Here's a heartfelt bit of advice for the mental wheelchairs traveling to Iowa 'just to make a fuss'...  Get your tickets from wherever you are reading this and fly to: Reagan International Airport.  Why?  Because Iowa is NOT the source of your discontentment - Washington, DC is.  AND (BONUS!) the guy who has been fueling your class warfare rhetoric is THERE.  (DISCLAIMER:  Actually, the guy who has been supporting your efforts to destroy Capitalism in the U.S. is currently in Hawaii (again) - but, like the 'bad penny' he'll show up in a couple of weeks rested, relaxed, and ready for more mayhem from the White House.  Maybe you folks could show up at HIS place in Hawaii?  Then follow him back here?  Just think of the Capitalist Riches you'll ring up on your 1%-sponsored credit card!)
• Lastly, in regard to Madame Pelosi's comment that this ongoing debacle is a 'beautiful, spontaneous event'?  The last time I saw a spontaneous movement from the OWS folks, it involved a guy with his butt hunkered down onto the fender of a police car.  It WAS spontaneous, but the 'beautiful' adjective does not seem to apply to the 'movement' itself.

As you look across the Nation do you feel more, or less secure, knowing that the highest elected official in the land supports the efforts of the OWS group.  These are the people who 'occupy' property which does not belong to them, shout down the free speech of others, and use intimidation to garner an audience for their 'needs, wants, and desires'.

Answer the above question honestly.

As the freedom-fighting, liberty-loving, 'Occupy Everything' bunch use their iPhones to call their collective Moms to send blankets, sleeping bags and other assorted Eddie Bauer winter 'occupation' accessories, I find myself inextricably drawn back to the OWS 'thing'.  Yes, as a stray dog laps at the eerily-green puddle of anti-freeze under almost any 1982 Chevrolet, I'm going there again.  Keep the 55-Gallon Drum of Hand Sanitizer ready for this one. 

It has been my contention that the Occupy 'Movement' has its roots deeply embedded in other organizations which are made up of malevolent fringe groups.  I use the word 'Malevolent' purposefully.  

I'm sure there are other words which may suffice, but when you look up the actual meaning of the word, yeah, it's what this is the one which communicates the message most succinctly:

The insidiousness of Communism, Socialism, and dare I say, a National Socialist Party (feel free to exchange the word 'Nazi' here) are that they appeal to the lowest common denominators of human emotion:  Envy, Greed, Need, and Fear. 

Mixing metaphors (midstream) these may well be called the "Four Horsemen of Communism".  Giddyup Pardners, time to Ride!  

ENVY:  Shows how others have 'gotten over on you' personally, professionally, and politically

GREED:  Others 'got it', and you obviously are entitled to more of it - whatever IT happens to be

NEED:  The evil twin of Greed, as in, "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need" - Karl Marx   (The really-unlikeable Marx Brother)

FEAR:  That feeling of knowing that you're not good enough to make it on your own - you yearn for other comrades to accompany you on your personal road to nowhere

In Marketing, we call the promotion of the above items to cause a predictable emotional response:

The above video compilation was found on the American Nazi Party website (just below their Christmas Party invitation - seriously).  The evil genius of their method is that they hit upon topics which 'a lot of people' (particularly the weak-minded, un-educated, and ill-informed) agree with.  Given the number of people who AGREE with the OWS 'occupiers' (currently 30+%) you can safely say that US Education Unions have 'earned their keep'.  When I see Union Initiatives posted on Communist websites, yeah, I can connect the dots to determine who's working with who(m).

America Wants to Work (AFL-CIO) in alliance with many community and activist organizations including Moveon.org are organizing a week of actions Oct. 10-16 demanding jobs. Thousands of grassroots actions, marches, vigils, delegations and speak-outs are being planned in cities and neighborhoods across the country.

A national National Teach-in called Students and Youth Rising for Jobs and Economic Justice will take place Oct. 12.


What you can do to mobilize support for the American Jobs Act:
1. Circulate the attached petition among coworkers and neighbors or the online petition being circulated by the AFL-CIO and other organizations.

2. Join with others who are supporting the American Jobs Act and help organize an action during Oct. 10-16.

3. Secure endorsements of the bill from prominent individuals and organizations.

4. Help organize and participate in delegations visiting your congressperson.

5. Explore the possibility of a city council hearing.

6. Organize a jobs committee in your neighborhood or community organization.

Make no mistake, when discussing the goals of Union Leadership, Communists, Socialists, and Nazis, these folks are all peas who stumble blinkingly out of the same pod.  As they continue to cross-pollinate each others' agenda, the lines will continue to diminish between them.  In the end, they'll only be classified as 'a little Left of center'.   

In the movie, "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", nomadic alien beings place a 'pod' next to your bed as you sleep; in the morning, your 'pod person' takes your place and your human self is 'no more'.

The challenge for America in 2011 is to stay awake to ALL threats, foreign, domestic, and dare I say it out loud, a-l-i-e-n?  No, I don't check next to the Sealy Posturepedic for a large, green pod (luckily for me there is normally a Golden Retriever there with little room for anything besides her and her pillow), but I often look at myself in the mirror to confirm that I am still who I think I am. 

Most times I see the person I remember most, but sometimes, I get a glint of greenish eye-shine, and then, in a flash, it's gone.

It's kind of like this in the country I always thought I'd grow old(er) in.  In a flash, in a rush, in a moment, everything's changed, and a bit more 'poddish' than I expected it to be.  If I / we allow it to happen on my / our watch we may as well just stay asleep - pod or no...

No.  Not on my watch.

I TOLD you the colors were there for a reason.

Some of you (not mentioning names here, but you know who you are) said that I was "Nuts". You said that I was "Delusional".

In many areas, the “Occupy Movement” is linking up with the National American Wants to Work Week of Actions, Oct. 10-16.

No doubt the “Arab Spring” demonstrations and those that exploded in Wisconsin, Ohio and elsewhere have inspired it. But underlying it all is the economic crisis, the massive unemployment and growing realization that nothing is getting better, and in fact we may be slipping into a “double dip” crisis. The movement is the newest wrinkle in the all-people’s upsurge against the banks and corporations and reflects a new level of class-consciousness.


While there is a wide range of political and ideological trends, there is a consensus against corporate greed, getting money out of politics, taxing the rich and putting people before profits.


A big challenge for the CPUSA and left, progressive movements is to link these demonstrations with the labor led all-people’s coalition and help deepen understanding that the path to progress must be through electoral and political action including defeating Republican Tea Party reaction in 2012.

Of primary importance is linking it with the burgeoning fight for jobs and especially passage of the American Jobs Act.


We can also play a role in offering more advanced programmatic ideas like nationalizing the banks and socialism.

To have a positive impact, the CPUSA and YCL must be a part of the “Occupy” movement, participating at every level and building greater local support for the actions among labor and progressive forces.

Are there more 'Usual Suspects' backing the OWS 'cause'?

Yes, many, many more. But lunch is over, time to get back to my job (something the 'Occupiers' don't worry about so much) so that I can provide a livehood for myself and my family.

I guess when it comes right down to it - I don't want anyone else paying my way for me.

I'll do that myself - but the government's offer of assistance was 'really super nice'!.

I'm an American. I do what I can.

As for the Communists / Nazis / Occupiers above, well, I'm not sure WHAT they are. Well, if I'm being HONEST with you, I do, but since this is a family-friend site, well, you know...

Is anyone else NOT surprised to find this on the Communist Party USA site?  You could have knocked me over with a feather once I saw the Communist Party of America referring 'hard working' Americans to...  The AFL - CIO.

American Unions will do for Capitalism in America what they did for the nice ladies in the 1970's American clothing industry.  Destroy the industry AND their jobs - forcing manufacturers to move off-shore.

In hindsight, it wasn't really anything to sing about...
